Noisette Community
Highlights: Public-Private partnership to revitalize 3,000-acre historic core of North Charleston, SC; Noisette project launched in 2001 in response to the closure of the Charleston Naval Base in 1996; Focus on Triple Bottom Line principles; Planning efforts helped induce over $500,000,000 in public and private investment; Non-profit infrastructure established to address education, social justice and environmental health.
Dewees Island
Highlights: 1,400-acre, boat access only, barrier island; Identified by Rocky Mountain Institute in 1994 as leading sustainable development; 2001 ULI Award of Excellence; Set new standard for coastal conservation development; 94% of island habitat preserved with 65% under permanent conservation easement; Self contained water and wastewater treatment; Full-time island caretaker and naturalist.
West Denver
Highlights: Partnership with the City and County of Denver, The Gates Family Foundation, Denver Housing Authority, The Denver Foundation and Enterprise Community Partners to assess the potential for West Denver to be a model for sustainable and resilient urban regeneration at the district scale. Utilizing the CityCrafting process to bring together a broad group of stakeholders from the public, private and nonprofit sectors to focus on regeneration and restoration of financial, natural, physical and social capital.
Noisette Foundation
The Noisette Foundation (now The CityCraft Foundation) was a 501-C-3 community foundation established to support the implementation of the Noisette Community Master Plan. Partnering with the City of North Charleston, South Carolina the Noisette Community Master Plan set forth a vision for “a vibrant, healthy city embracing its heritage and celebrating its role in the community, ecosystem and marketplace.” The Noisette Foundation was formed in 2004 to ensure that this vision is kept and that no one is left out of the process.
City of Reading
Highlights: Initial assessment and analysis for City of Reading to identify network of cross sector organizations and individuals necessary to implement long term city revitalization strategy. Provided preliminary road map and recommendations for planning and implementation needs.
Westside Atlanta
Highlights: Initial analysis of potential for Atlanta University Center and surrounding neighborhoods of Castleberry Hill, Vine City, English Avenue and others to participate in long term, integrated restoration process necessary to restore the economic, social and environmental health of the community.
